SIA Response Teams
We all hope that events run smoothly yet we work with an unpredictable element – people. Hence, no mater how well an event is planned or produced, when music, alcohol, large crowds and emotions combine, the result can be explosive, even when you least expect it.
Event organisers can create the most detailed event plans but, as experienced professionals, we know that the very best laid out plans do not always run without issue or incident.
A community fete, football match, music event or store opening are all open to health and safety issues, matters of public disorder and incidents of violence.
This statement is not meant to alarm, nor are we saying that the above will happen at every event, but whilst the majority of events pass without incident, you must prepare for every eventuality.
Why Response Teams
As a responsible event Organisers, venue managers, this factor should / must be scheduled in to planning from the outset.
Who will deal with high risk incidents, or unforeseen issues?
Achilleus Security Response teams are made up of specially selected and trained SIA Licensed Door Supervisors, they are cost efficient, and highly effective in dealing with problems, issues or incidents such as disorder, unruly behaviour, queuing issues, or as a rapid response where an issue or incident has or is about to occur.
The use of trained and SIA licensed response operatives by event organisers and venue managers has increased. Trained and experienced response teams work both covertly and overtly with the highest levels of professionalism and integrity alongside security, stewarding and crowd management teams to deal with health and safety issues that may arise. While it is perceived that event safety stewards are in place and employed to deal with outbreaks of disorder, this is not the case. The Private Security Industry Act 2001 states that by law only licensed door supervisors should deal with outbreaks of crime or disorder, and while most licensed door supervisors are able to defuse high risk conflict they are not always best placed, trained or qualified to deal with such situations.
Training, Appearance & Skill Counts
Response Team Operatives operate along side other crowd safety and security teams, and as such they must be customer and visitor-friendly, approachable, have excellent communications skills and be able to meet and greet your customers or guests.
Achilleus Security Response Team members also have the ability to be firm and authoritative when necessary so they can deal with or manage situations efficiently, safely and effectively.
Response Team Operative must also be able to professionally manage high risk conflict situations, diffusing a scenario before it escalates and restraining or ejecting persons when required.
Today’s Response Team personnel must be good communicators and presentable with qualifications in:
- NVQ Level 2 in Door Supervision
- Customer service (Level 2) Communication
- Conflict management (Level 2)
- Problem solving
- Spectator safety (Level 2 and 3 NVQ)

- First aid (Basic and First Aid at Work)
- Physical intervention (Level 2)
- Physical Restraint (Level 2)

In addition to the above, all Achilleus door supervisors have a working knowledge of risk management, law and prevention of terrorism. These skills and others can be expected of an Achilleus Security Response Team Member.
